This day was a day of travel that included some of the best sight-seeing that the Mediterranean coast could offer.
The day started in the small village of Corniglia, only accessible by train or small car. Tim and Monique traversed the famous 382 stair steps back down to the train station and headed to their next destination of Vernazza. There is a bus for those who wish to skip these steps, but Tim and Monique hiked up them on their arrival and back down on their departure. While in Vernazza, the two explored to find mountain top hidden doorways and alleys, churches, vertical cemeteries, a wine coaster and much more. They walked the magical beaches of Vernazza which in the summer would be packed with a mix of chase lounge chairs filled with locals and tourists. This led them to another famous landmark of this region, the Giant of Monterosso, a 14 meter tall statue of Neptune holding back the sea. While here in Monterosso, they toured more Italian Riviera beaches, visited more small neighborhood churches before having a lunch at one of the local outdoor cafes. Then they headed for the train and their final stop for the day, Genova. From the Brignole Station in Genoa, they hiked up the hillside to meet their host at the flat which would be home for a few days while visiting the biggest sea port on the Mediterranean. After settling in and unpacking, they walked a few blocks to Aunt Mary's apartment. Then they visited for a bit and greeted the dogs. The three went to the local market via a mountain-side elevator and stocked up on supplies for their visit. The day ended with a meal at Aunt Mary's place and then heading back to their flat where Tim and Monique ended the day watching the giant cruise ships come in and out of the harbor. The views from their flat were incredible and their accommodations were roomy and comfortable.
